- Inhibits germinating weed seeds.
- Slow-release organic source of macro- and micro-nutrition.
Application:
Ideal for planting out new plants and improving the soil’s physical structure. Excellent mulch for roses, fruit trees and Fuschias. Advisable to use with leafy vegetables such as cabbage, spinach and lettuce.
Application frequency: Apply kraal manure when planting new plants or preparing beds for the above-mentioned plants.
Application Rate:
For new plants:
- Dig a hole twice as wide and as deep as the root ball.
- Loosen the soil a further 150mm deep.
- Mix kraal manure 1:3 with the soil removed from the hole.
- Add a layer of kraal manure/soil mix to the bottom of the hole and insert the plant.
- Fill with more of the mix and press lightly.
- The plant should be at the same level as it was originally grown and at the same level as the surrounding soil. Keep the plant upright and tread the soil firmly working away from the plant stem.
- Rim the edge of the hole with kraal manure/soil mix and fill with water until the root ball and kraal manure/soil mix is thoroughly soaked.
For new beds:
Work 1 part kraal manure for 3 parts soil to a depth of 150mm – 200mm.
As a mulch: In early spring, use a 50mm layer of kraal manure as a mulch after pruning roses and fruit trees. For gross feeders similarly apply a 50mm layer of kraal manure around the plant.
